memorial weekend drive-a-round
In assembling my Colorado State Ends section, I realized I was missing some ends (Duh!), most notably in the Arkansas River Valley from the Front Range east. So, since it is the Memorial Day weekend, I thought I'd honor my American right to drive around aimlessly.
Old roads, new pics. Nice.
Still on SH 115, but not for long. We'll then head east into Pueblo and points east.
One last curve. If you've been keeping up on cardinal directions, you'll notice we're about to turn north on SB 115.
Bouncing over the railroad lines that we saw along SH 120 on the way to the intersection with US 50.
Turning east on US 50 now, we see that this section of Cañon City isn't anything too special. The older (and nicer) parts of the city are to the left.
Here's a lesson for you. If you're going to price your gas 13 cents higher than your competition across the street, you're not going to get any business. Simple as that. $2.56, by the way, is the cheapest I've seen gas in this state in a very long time. Too bad the r-dub-mobile is sitting at 3/4 tank.
Old wire span installation over way too many intersecting roads. There's a frontage road on the left side, too.
Don't know why there's a line on the sign. That style hasn't been used in a long time, yet this is a new sign.
67 only heads south from this intersection. I talk in detail about this on my CO 67 Page.
Now that BET is showing old clips of In Living Color, I've had the chance to laugh at some seriously funny stuff again. The one I saw the night before the trip had the "Handi-man" skit in it, so I found this sign highly entertaining.
US 50 splits wide for this intersection. I don't know if that's to allow interchange development or what.
At the exit for SH 45. Also, look closely at the Park and Ride sign on the left: there's flashers facing the opposite direction of traffic with a Wrong Way sign between them. I guess there's a problem with the traffic going the wrong way here.
Here's the Goodnight intersection. Sleep Tight Road and Don't Let The Bedbugs Bite Lane weren't signalized.
Approaching the SH 96 intersection. I realize 45 is just a bypass road, but why doesn't CDOT put something south of Pueblo on this sign, like, perhaps, Colorado City or Trinidad?
An old 76 Bike Route sign. I don't believe there's a connection to the Bike I-76 route we've seen in other wanderings on this site, but I may be mistaken.
