Roadtrippin' Colorado Style

birthday 3-1 trip

Another year has passed in the life of r-dub. Guess it's time to celebrate with another road trip. I've got a hankerin' for some pass hopping. Let's see where these roads will take me this time, shall we?

Heading back now

Alright, we've made the turn back eastwards now. We're a long way from home still, however. Let's explore the Black Canyon of the Gunnison a bit.

Since Paonia got a P on the side of their closest hill, I guess it's only fair for Hotchkiss to get its H.

Scenery is still quite high through here.

We're definitely in the mesa side of the state.

This is a fun drive through here.

Entering Crawford, CO, whose elevation roughly matches Colorado Springs.

Rehabilitation of an old bridge is ongoing.

Can't see why this bridge needed work...

Curving east of Crawford State Park.

A small finger of the lake lies on the opposite side of the road.

Nice distance shot. Sorry about the wet spot, I really had to go.

After traveling that distance, the scenery starts to change.

We're entering the Black Canyon of the Gunnison area, so we get presented with this scenic pullout.

Looking out over the far northern rim of the Black Canyon.

These cows were really talkative. There was a line of cows as far as I could see, and they were all mooing to each other--kinda like a "Marco, Polo" game.

Rolling right along. 92 follows the northern rim of the Black Canyon.

Because it travels the rim, 92 is quite curvy. The maximum speed never goes above 45.

Otherwise, 92 travels through a whole lotta nothing.

I pulled off into an overlook. This is what it overlooked.

A lake in the canyon.

Looking southeast. The canyon continues to the left and right, and I believe that strip of grey is US 50.

So what exactly are we looking at? Glad you asked!

To the northeast.

Enough of the touron stoof. Back to the road!

A dancing arrow sign gets called to service.

We say goodbye to Delta!Delta!Delta! county. See where we're about to be?

Looking to the south. (Or was it west here? The road curved too much)

Another shot at the canyon.

This canyon is quite spectacular, but I bet it'd be better from inside looking up.

Don't be fooled: we're still hugging the rim.

Curving back to the canyon.

I'd like an order of mountains with a side of a road, please. Hold the clouds.

Take a look at that rock almost center in the picture. Interesting carve-out there.

Moo.

Goodness, this is a long road.

Curving through another finger canyon.

Big curve!

Yup, still a canyon.

Just testing the focus feature on my camera. At 45mph.

The rad has dropped to the point where we can glimpse more of the canyon.

Getting close to the end of the canyon.
