Roadtrippin' Colorado Style

Quick Denver Trippin'

I had a few hours to kill one day before heading to a friend's house for dinner, so I decided to check out the now-complete TREX Project in Denver. Of course, I had to take my camera along.

Gotta hurry, gonna be late

Well, the side trip made me fall behind schedule a bit. Time to pick up the pace.

Here's a scary thought: every bridge we see here carries light rail traffic, not vehicular traffic.

Another shot of the flyovers, and we start to see the tunnel ahead.

This tunnel takes us under the many lanes of mainline 25.

Just after the tunnel, the ramp has an exit to Belleview.

Originally, 225 traffic merged onto SB 25 from the left. 225 traffic wanting to exit on Belleview then had to weave across 4 lanes of traffic to exit within 1/4 mile. Now, there's a dedicated exit for the 225ers.

The Belleview exit and the Union Avenue station.

Back onto SB 25.

The speed limit raises just after Belleview now, instead of just after Arapahoe.

Orchard Avenue is our next exit.

I found some crews working on the Orchard station.

The Orchard station. Note the colored glass dividers on the platform.

A shot of how the light rail lines go over intersections in the Denver Tech Center section.

Bridge of Light Rail.

I wasn't able to figure out what the light rail lines are bridging here.

Approaching Arapahoe. That's a steep grade for the tracks!

The signs are still on poles, and when the bridge gets in the way, the bridge gets cut.

Big sign for three words of text!

Approaching the C-470/E-470 interchange

This interchange is where 25 loses lanes 4 and 5.

Three one way, quarter a dozen the other.

I like how crews addeed fencing on the bridges over the railroad tracks but not over the rest of the roadways.

The electrical lines for the trains pass close enough to the bridge to warrant red shielding.

Approaching the Lincoln station. This is the end of the line for the light rail tracks.

The end of the tracks is at the beginning of the Lincoln Avenue offramp.

Testing the striping!

Some of those stripes aren't doing that well.

Well, kids, at this point I realized how late I was getting to my dinner appointment, so I put the camera down and focused on getting there quickly. Hope you enjoyed your tour of the completed TREX project and more! --Ryan
